We are excited to announce the August 2025 release of Database Health Monitor, version 3.0. This is one of our biggest releases yet, delivering a mix of bug fixes, performance improvements, and powerful new features designed to make managing SQL Server even easier.
Whether you’re monitoring performance, checking for problems, or troubleshooting issues, version 3.0 gives you even more visibility and automation to keep your SQL Server environment running smoothly.
Highlights of Version 3.0
Introducing DBAssistant
The headline feature of version 3.0 is the new DBAssistant. This built-in advisor helps evaluate the configuration and health of your SQL Server environment and then provides direct guidance on how to resolve issues.
When DBAssistant detects a problem, you can:
- Apply a Quick Fix: Automatically apply the suggested resolution to your environment.
- Generate a T-SQL Fix: Get the exact query you can run yourself.
- Watch a YouTube Video: Open a walkthrough explaining the issue and resolution.
- Read More on Database Health Pages: Learn more details about the issue.
- Jump to Relevant Reports: Quickly navigate to related Database Health Monitor reports for more detail.
DBAssistant can be accessed from the instance tree menu, the Server and Database Overviews, and in several reports.
This is a game-changer for anyone who wants fast answers to SQL Server configuration problems.
New Reports and Enhancements
We’ve added several new reports to provide better insights into your SQL Server environment:
- Job History Timeline: A visual timeline chart shows when SQL Server Agent jobs are running and how long they take. Zoom in and out with Ctrl + Scrollwheel.
- Log Shipping Report: Gain more visibility into databases involved in log shipping.
- Problem Indexes Reports: At both the instance and database levels, these reports help identify disabled indexes and those with suboptimal fill factors.
- Backup Time Frames Report: View when backups occurred over the last 14 days.
- CPU by Query Report: See which queries are consuming the most CPU, with totals, averages, and execution counts.
QuickScan Checks
We’ve added several new QuickScan checks to help spot issues faster:
- #237 – Merge Replication Conflicts
- #238 – Ola Scripts Installed but Not Running
- #239 – Database Health Monitor Jobs Failing
- #240 – Disabled Indexes
- #241 – Missing Primary Keys
- #242 – SQL Server Error Log Inaccessible
- #243 – Data and Log Files on Same Drive
Performance Monitor Overhaul
The Performance Monitor has been completely redesigned with:
- New colors and updated UI
- Improved CPU and Memory charts
- Blocking query tracking
- Recommended indexes based on currently running queries
- A new timed report option: specify a duration and email, and results will be tracked and sent automatically
Rewards Section
To thank our paying users, we’ve introduced a Rewards Section in the navigation tree. Over time, you’ll unlock new rewards for your continued support.
Additional Improvements
- SchemaDrift now includes command line parameters for automated diffs.
- Mouse wheel support has been added for resizing fonts in the query dialog.
- Email alert configuration now has exclude options for alerts 5002, 5003, 5004, 5007, and 5009.
Bug Fixes in Version 3.0
We’ve fixed a number of issues to make Database Health Monitor more reliable:
- Disk Latency by Hour report now works with Linux-based SQL Server installs.
- Fixed a crash in the Historic Waits panel.
- Corrected disk latency reports showing tomorrow’s data.
- Improved rollup code on the IndexUsageOverTime table to prevent uncontrolled growth.
